Leo Varadkar has given a rare look into his life with partner Matthew Barrett as he shared they are hoping to add to their family.
The Tanaiste has been with the cardiologist for many years and had been seen by his side for a handful of engagements, including then-US Vice President Mike Pence’s visit to Ireland along with Prince William and Kate Middleton’s visit.
Now the Minister for Enterprise has given an insight into his relationship with Matthew in a new interview.

The Fine Gael leader sat down for a chat with Paudie O’Callaghan, who captured hearts on Friday night’s The Late Late Toy Show, on the Limerick youngster’s podcast.
The 11-year-old recorded a special episode of his Paudcast as part of Down Syndrome Ireland’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Minister Varadkar told Paudie that he and Matt are thinking about getting a cat as well as chatting about his favourite food.

In the interview, shared with the Irish Sun, he told Paudie: ‘We’re thinking of getting a cat. It’ll have to be a pet that could look after itself as I’m not home much.’
The politician also spoke about his love for chicken wings, but he’s ditched them ahead of Christmas.
‘I love food, I do eat too much food. My default option would be chicken wings. I’m trying to avoid them now because I want to lose a bit of weight coming into Christmas,’ he laughed.
When asked about the 21 Demands, a discrete and specific list of demands of Government, wider stakeholders and society for people with disabilities, Minister Varadkar said: ‘I think they’re good, I think they’re reasonable. I don’t think they’re things we can do overnight .It can be hard to find staff but I agree with them.’

The Tanaiste reflected on his career as a doctor, saying that he was more respected but his current Government role is a ‘great job’.
‘They’re both great jobs and it’s been a privilege to do both of them. One big difference is as a doctor you’re a little bit more respected by people,’ he said.
‘They tend to trust you and believe what you’re saying is true but when you’re the same person wearing a different hat as a politician, people are much more sceptical which is kind of sad but that’s the way it is.’
