An award-winning County Limerick boy is to feature on tonight’s Late Late Toy Show. 

Eleven-year-old Padraig O’Callaghan who has Down Syndrome received a LIFT Ireland Leadership Award this week in the ‘positive attitude category.

Padraig attracted national headlines after he started a weekly motivational podcat during the pandemic.

His Dad Brian let the cat out of the bag on this morning’s Limerick Today….

A ten-year-old Limerick boy has been nominated for a prestigious leadership award.

Padraig O’Callaghan from Ballingarry is a finalist in the LIFT leadership awards in the Positive Attitude category.

Those shortlisted are people from across Ireland who have demonstrated great personal leadership, making a difference to the people around them and influencing Ireland for the better. 

The winner of each category will be announced at an online awards event on Wednesday, 17th November 2021.

Pádraig, who has Down Syndrome, became famous when he started his own weekly podcast or ‘paudcast’ during the pandemic in an effort to lift spirits.

Commenting today Joanne Hession, Founder of LIFT Ireland, said: “We are delighted to be able to celebrate everyday leaders from Limerick and across the country again this year. Last year’s awards were a great success showcasing the leadership and resilience shown throughout the pandemic. Going online over the past 18 months has allowed us to reach even more participants with over 20,000 people taking part in our Leadership Roundtables, developing their leadership skills at a time when they were most needed.”

Padraig O’Callaghan from Knockainey in County Limerick has been making regular motivational ‘paudcasts’ during the pandemic.

His Monday videos are full of positivity and often touch on whatever is happening in Limerick at the time.

For example, Pádraig celebrated the return to schools with a video message from his own schoolyard and he also made a special video promoting the good work of Team Limerick Clean Up.

But this week, Pádraig has gone political – weighing in on the controversy over a Forbes magazine article that painted Limerick in a bad and false light.

It’s led to a huge backlash both politically and among ordinary people and the Mayor of Limerick has called for Forbes magazine to apologise.

Pádraig has joined the debate and this week’s episode joins the county-wide campaign of #Limerickandproud that emerged following the publication.

Filmed in front of the new mural of Limerick icon Dodo Reddan, Pádraig uses a distinct Limerick word to describe the author of the Forbes article- take a listen:

If you’re feeling down in the dumps during the pandemic, Limerick lad Padraig O’Callaghan is the man to cheer you up.

Ten- year old Padraig O’Callaghan has been producing podcasts with messages of hope and positivity through the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Knockainey boy, son of Brian and Marie O’Callaghan, has Down Syndrome but that is clearly not holding him back.

Brian, founder of EcoStraws Ireland, is a regular contributor on Live95’s Limerick Today and has talked about producing the podcast with Padraig.

“It started as a way of keeping him entertained during the lockdown, it was also a little project for him to do. But it’s also helped with his self-confidence.”

You can catch Padraig on RTE’s Nationwide tonight from 7pm, in a piece filmed by County Limerick couple Matt Kelly and Marian Malone of Matt Kelly Productions who recently produced packages for Good Morning America and This Morning with Philip and Holly in the UK.

A 10 year old from Limerick says he’s “so happy” with the support his Monday Motivational podcast has received.

Every Monday Pádraig O’Callaghan, who has Down Syndrome, takes to the mic to share 60 seconds of positivity.

“The Paud-Cast” began as a way to keep busy while schools shut last year.

Pádraig’s dad Brian said they thought of the idea to help with his son’s communication and confident skills.

Just a few months on, the injection of positivity has attracted a global audience in recent weeks.
